The malga is located in the central part of the Piana from which it takes its name, between Malga III Lotto to the south and Malga V Lotto to the north. The pastures stretch out over a large morainic deposit, originated 16,000 years ago from the last Wurmian Ice Age and over the western slopes of Monte della Forcellona. Looking eastward from the area of the malga, there is a gorgeous view of the Trentino peaks, as well as the highest crests of the Plateau. Looking eastward from the malga, a damp, fenced in area is clearly visible. It is the Torbiera (peat bog) Pal\u00f9 di Sotto, formed over the millennia due to the soil that had become impermeable and in the presence of water springs. Near the malga, there is also a vast area with facilities for picnics.
