Difficulty: difficult
Data collected through Komoot App, “MOUNTAIN BIKING” mode

Starting point at the Asiago Pala Hodegart parking lot. At the roundabout, follow the directions for Trento-Camporovere and continue until you reach the center of the town. From here, turn right and follow the directions for Forte Interrotto. Continue uphill along the winding trail until you reach the fort. From here, take the trail that continues into the wood in the direction of Monte Mosciagh. Pass the summit area (characterized by wide wood areas torn apart by the Vaia Storm in 2018) and go downhill to the Mosciagh Austro-Hungarian cemeteries 1 and 2. Once you’ve passed the cemeteries, turn left and go down towards Valle di Galmarara. Once at the valley bottom , continue on the right and go uphill to Malga Galmararetta and Galmarara. At the crossroads near the last malga, turn right and continue up to the little mountain pass just south of Malga Zingarella. Here, turn right and continue south towards Malga Zebio Pastorile and then towards Malga Zebio. The stretch of trail that from the fork after Malga Zebio Pastorile brings you to Malga Zebio can also be backtracked, to continue to Bivio Scoglio Bianco, where you turn left at the bend to reach Tabela loc. Here, turn right and go downhill to the next crossroads. There, stay on the right, following the trail downhill through the whole Val di Nos.
Soon after the starting point area of the Didactic Forest Trail it is necessary to pay attention and take the small path on the right that connects with the trail that descends from Monte Zebio. From here go downhill to Val Giardini, and continue towards the center of Asiago, and return to your starting point.

General information and news

The itinerary runs through the central part of the Plateau with many sections closed to vehicle traffic. Along the path, some of the most tourist spots of the Plateau connected to the Great War can be found. The first part, until Forte Interrotto, is characterized by extremely scenic views over the central basin of the Plateau.
Depending on the seasonal weather situations, the conditions of the section of mule trail that goes from Malga Zingarella to Malga Zebio Pastorile may not be optimum. Alternatively, Malga Zebio and Malga Zebio Pastorile can be reached proceeding towards Val di Nos and turning right either at the first crossroads (Tabela locality) or at the second crossroads (Bivio Scoglio Bianco).

Sites of interest along the route:

  • Monte Zebiois an important site of the Ecomuseo della Grande Guerra Prealpi Vicentine, as well as a point of passage for the Sentiero della Pace (Peace Trail).
Sadly famous is the event of the mine (made by the Italians beginning from autumn 1916 under the Lunetta’s spur) that exploded in an untimely manner, perhaps due to a lightning strike, on 8 June 1917 at 17:30 (two days earlier than had been established), also causing an explosion in the Austrian countermine. In addition to the 120 Italian soldiers who lost their lives here, there were also more than forty officers from the Catania Brigade who were observing the Austrian positions from the Lunetta at that moment in anticipation of the Battle of Ortigara.
  • The presence of numerousrecovered trenchesis highly significant, as is the Sassari Brigade War Cemetery, the promotion of which was possible thanks to collaboration with the Sardinian Municipalities where most of the soldiers who fell here were from.
