Starting point/Arrival: Roana Lake
Recommended direction : Counter-clockwise
Ideal season for trekking: from June to October

 

Starting point at Lonaba locality (Roana Lake). Take the trail uphill following the directions for Malga Quarti di Verena. Keep following the main trail passing by Ponte del Martin locality and continuing uphill until you reach Malga Quarti di Verena. From here continue towards Malga Verena until you reach the fork with the trail that keeps upwards to Forte Verena. At this fork it is possible, with a detour, to turn right and go up to the top of Monte Verena and then go back down until you reach Croce del Civello fork. Here, take the trail on the right towards Campovecchio loc. Once you have reached the asphalted road, turn right and then left going downhill towards Malga Mandrielle. Once you have passed by the malga, continue on left and, at the next fork, turn left for Malga Posellaro and Malga Trugole. From Malga Trugole, keep on the main road to Rifugio Campolongo. Go downhill for a short stretch along the main road until the fork towards Monte Erio where you turn left and take the dirt trail that moves uphill to Spiazzo dei Mercanti. From here, go straight towards Malga Gruppach. Once you have gone past it, the journey ends moving downhill towards Roana Lake.

General information and news

Itinerary that runs through the western sector of the Plateau on the slopes of the mountainous massif dominated by Monte Verena, through pastures, malgas, and forests of the Roana and Rotzo Municipalities. After a rather demanding initial ascent, the route stays substantially at high altitude until the final descent the leads to Roana Lake.
The area is dominated by two forts from the Great War, Ecomuseo della Grande Guerra Prealpi Vicentine sites, which have been recovered and can be toured that provide 360° scenic views. They can be reached with some detours: to the north, after Malga Verena, you can go up to the right to Cima di Monte Verena (with refuge/restaurant above 2,000 m a.s.l.); to the south, from Rifugio Campolongo you can go up to Forte Campolongo.

  • The travel direction indicated here is recommended based on the itinerary’s altitude and to facilitate the overall panoramic view.
  • In case of customizations, we recommend you check the changes in parameters regarding the length, travel time and the altitude differences, as well as to ascertain the actual practicability of the trails that are not mentioned here.

This itinerary is easily accessible by following an approaching path from the center of the Seven Municipalities of the Altopiano or from particularly convenient points due to their geographical position or services offered.
